Doing For Self or The Cyberground Railroad: Part 2

Fame, makes a man take things over-David Bowie

The original quote was that “we would all be famous for fifteen minutes.”  Well, that is now more accurately phrased by the artist Momus, who said we will “ all be famous to fifteen people.” We are taking this cyberground railroad to new celebrity, much like our cousins worldwide.  Youtube has become a place to “get a rep,” for some to use as a stepping-stone to other things.  But for some, and maybe most of us, it is a place to be who we are, in our own skin.

And our own networks and channels have become where we can commune and communicate, especially visually, in the manner that we have become so used to.  Often the communication is directed in getting us in touch with each other, so that more of us can be aware.

Lawd knows, some of us need to be aware of Montana.  See how this works:  She will be more famous in minutes, once you read this.  We also move our web presence to Youtube and move our Youtube audience to our web sites.  In the biggest network, we are famous to more. And for more than you can find on 500 cable channels, some of which are still showing Benson.  But that’s ok, Bill is still getting a check from Benson.  Image haters and grammar gangstas aside, it is refreshing for some of us to see some of us exploring our issues, in our own language, in our own style.

For example, take relationships, now Dr. Phil, Jerry Springer, and even all the judges are entertaining, but for the most part that ain’t us, not meant to be us, and if it is, that’s another story.  But Grammy winner FatmanScoop and his wife, Shanda keep it real, lovin real on ManandWife.tv.  They sing another song on their site, and Youtube has gotten them 15 people, maybe more than 15 times.

This freedom to be has spawned many TV-inspired series, that deliver us to fame in our own light, speaking and thinking without the filter that usually makes our selves more palatable to some, but more distant to others.  We carry our philosophy, informed by our experience, and preach, teach and reach, in our own way. Part Petey Greene, Part Max Headroom .

And most important is that we can respond to each other, in the most appropriate way, without employing a pattern or tradition.  There is some empowerment in viewing and understanding each other as we can, because the lessons often come from the same radio, if not the same books.
