Thomas Mikal Ford was born on the 5th of September, 1964 and died on the 12th of October, 2016. He was an American comedian and actor. He was famous for playing the role of Thomas “Tommy” Strawn in Martin, a FOX sitcom. In addition to the fame he acquired for being on the FOX sitcom “Martin”, Thomas Mikal Ford was also famous for featuring in “The Parkers” as Mel Parker.
Although Thomas was raised in Long Beach California, he was actually born in Los Angeles. He was born to a pipe-fitter father and a secondary school teacher mother. Thomas Mikal Ford originally wanted to become a preacher when he was a child, he ended up becoming an actor. While in high school, he began taking acting lessons and also began taking part in high school plays.
Ford is a graduate of Long Beach City College where he earned an Associate of Arts degree. In addition to the degree he earned from Long Beach City College, Ford also earned a Bachelor of fine Arts degree in acting from the University of Southern California.
Ford got married to Gina Sasso in 1997. This marriage produced two children and ended in 2014. After his marriage to Gina Sasso ended, Ford relocated to Atlanta in 2015. In Atlanta, he cohabited with his girlfriend. He lived with his girlfriend until October 12, 2016 when he died from an aneurysm in the abdomen.
Thomas Ford had an illustrious career. His role in a lot of the movies he was featured in came with accolades. For his role ad Tommy Strawn on Martin, Ford earned an NACP Image Awards nomination. This awards nomination was in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Thomas ford did not end as an actor. He went on to direct and produce a movie. He directed the play ‘Where We Live” in 1993. This play was focused on 6 African- American Professionals that returned to neighborhood where they were brought up and got to find out about the issues that those in the neighborhood found challenging. This play was a success as it was performed in the oldest black theater in the United States, the Los Angeles Ebony Showcase Theatre. Ford made it known that his reason for choosing to perform this play in the Los Angeles Ebony Showcase Theatre as an attempt to raise some money for the theater which was on the verge of closing down. Still in 1993, Ford was a co-host of the Texas Gospel Music Awards. He co-hosted this awards with Troy Curvey and Yolanda Adams.
Apart from acting and doing comedy, Thomas Ford was also a writer. He wrote a couple of books to inspire children. These books include “I am responsible for me” and “Positive Attitude”.
