Fashion Week: Friday
we'll take you there. the rest is up to you.
2007-09-07
For most, the end of summer is marked by Labor Day festivities. For anybody who works in the world of style, Fashion Week is the marker. Every editor, buyer, and wannabee will be at or near Bryant Park in New York City for the next seven days. Though the shows officially start on Wednesday, September 5th, the kickoff is on Tuesday morning, immediately following your Labor Day reverie.
This year’s Collections—sponsored by Mercedes Benz—begin with the lighting of the Empire State Building. What could possibly be the draw at the height of Manhattan first thing in the morning? Alek Wek. Later Tuesday night, the Sudanese refugee turned runway star will be autographing her book, Alek, at an invite-only soiree in lower Manhattan that’s hosted by Iman, Diane Von Furstenburg and the Wall Street Journal.
Everyday from early morning to late into the night, Bryant Park will be all adrenalin. The big guns will be showing their Spring 2008 offerings, but the sidelines will be buzzing with plenty of other designers trying to entice editors and buyers to look their way. A nod from the right person can mean the difference between making millions or barely making it when the warm weather comes back around.

We will be front row center at the much-anticipated shows of Tracy Reese, Kimora Lee Simmons, Kai Milla, b Michael, and Stephen Burrows. Our ears will be perked for anybody else who steps up!
We’ll be talking to the key players in the fashion industry to get their take on what they like, what they’re seeing. And all of it, whatever we see, we will be bringing to you each day.
Should be a fun (if exhausting) journey. Here’s to it!
