Michael Jackson was about 12 years old when he first visited the Chicago headquarters of Johnson Publishing Company. The Jackson 5 was in town for a concert at the now-defunct International Amphitheater.
JPC Chairman and CEO Linda Johnson Rice recalls the visit. “He was a quiet guy, extremely polite and very gracious,” she said. “We’re actually about the same age, and so, I have to admit that I had a little crush on Michael, as so many girls did during that time. He had sort of a whimsical spirit about him that immediately caught on with everyone who was in close range.”
