It has been said by many (including Barack Obama) that Obama’s decisive victory in the 2008 presidential campaign was built on the efforts of those who came before him. Civil rights activism and political challenges laid the foundation for breaking through barriers and bringing about the kinds of social change that fostered such a favorable climate. And though Obama was the first Black candidate to clinch the election, he was by no means the first to run. We take a look back at the campaigns and the candidates who took a first run at the gold ring.

Excellent article and greatly needed for the young people in the United States to realize it takes a struggle and hard work to acheive significant accomplishments in life. It also should be noted, it takes communities to organize and work together for one person to reach the top by standing on everyone else's shoulders.

I pray that obama will be able to turn the ecomony around, but I know he needs more that 4 years. Ms. Vett you really need to get real. Obama never claimed to be the baby Jesus and I am shocked that you made that statement. We love you anyway.
