It has been three days since we lost Michael Jackson, and the surreal atmosphere surrounding his death has yet to subside. Collectively, we are mired in the first stages of grief. We are still reeling from the news, wondering how an event of such tragic proportions ever came to pass. And yet, even as we mourn his loss, we continue to pay tribute. Reflecting on a talent of such undeniable proportions, how could we do anything less than pop and lock it, PYT it, beat it, and rock the Thriller.

The tributes have come spontaneously, sprung from the need to recognize the passing of and the presence of Genius in our midst. Out of the sorrow comes anger at the caretakers who failed their charge; regret at the slightest doubt ever expressed about his character; sorrow at the emotional ride we witnessed over his lifetime.

Michael was legendary. Michael was loved. Michael will be missed.
