“I’m on a Horse”
The Making of the Old Spice Commercial
If you’ve been living under a rock, your probably are wondering why your friends are talking about being on a horse lately. Or repeating the phrase “Look at your man, now look at me..”
Blame it on the zeitgeist driving power of the Superbowl and a fairly brilliant campaign from the makers of Old Spice, who as a brand have been using offbeat humor and innovative imagery to create a new image around a brand that just a couple of years ago was more associated with bad Father’s Day gifts, or in the same nostalgic tone as scents like Bay Rhum, English Leather , Brut and Hai Karate!
Will it lead men raised on designer colognes to actually switch to Old Spice? More amazing things have happened but who knows. Still, the commercial is at the top of many “favorite” lists and immediately joins the pantheon of ads that rapidly become a part of popular culture.
This video, by Joe Laporte, details the creative process that went into the making of the now infamous ad.
